Otter.ai

Otter.ai turns meeting speech into transcripts, summaries and follow-up items. Its Notetaker can join Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls.

Primary purpose

Use it to revisit decisions and tasks from a project meeting or locate discussion from a customer call. A calendar-scheduled Notetaker joins as a visible participant; speaker labels and generated summaries should be checked by a person. English and Spanish are listed for transcription; Turkish is not, and the interface remains English. An official API is available to Enterprise workspaces; calendar integration does not grant that access. Business unlimited meetings/recordings exclude the file-import minute allowance. Provide notices and secure the required recording permissions.

Editorial strengths

Having transcripts, summaries and action data together can help organise meeting follow-up. This is an editorial assessment of the documented workflow, not an accuracy guarantee.

Limitations

Turkish is not among the currently supported transcription languages. Free and Pro plans impose minute, file and meeting limits; Business unlimited meetings do not remove the file-import allowance.

Who it is for

Consider it for project, sales and research teams meeting in supported languages. Recording permission, sharing access and organisational data policy belong in the purchasing decision.

Commercial use

Data rights can depend on the account’s organisational relationship. Business use of transcripts does not remove participant permissions or third-party content rights; avoid promising blanket legal protection for recordings.

Privacy and data handling

Notify participants and secure the required recording permissions; a bot notice alone is not legally sufficient everywhere. Otter’s own model-training policy is separate from its statements about third-party provider training.
